This is why flags will be flown at half-staff in Washington this week

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington Governor Bob Ferguson is directing all state agency facilities to lower their flags to half-staff Tuesday.

Gov. Ferguson issued the order in “honor and remembrance” of Pope Francis, who died Monday morning at age 88. The flags will remain at half-staff until “close of business or sunset” on Saturday.

President Trump issued a similar federal directive on Monday, mandating flags at agencies to be flown at half-staff until the evening of the Pope’s funeral Saturday.
